Platform Aerospace, which specializes in aerospace manufacturing, engineering and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), opened its doors to the public on Oct 5, 2018 in honor of Manufacturing Day. Manufacturing Day is an annual event held nationwide and backed by several thousand manufacturing companies. On this day these companies have open houses which allow teachers, students, job seekers and the community at large to visit and tour their facilities. This gives the participants an up close and personal look at what a potential career in this field may look like.
Leading the tour of the Hollywood, Maryland facility was Kurt Parsons, chief executive officer of Platform Aerospace.
“This was a great day for the industry in Southern Maryland. It says a lot about St. Mary’s county that they would support something like this and it was exciting to have the MD Department of Labor get behind it and come out to support us.”
Says Kurt Parsons, CEO of Platform.
During the visit Parsons highlighted one of the UAV’s that they own and manufacture that holds the world record for gas powered unmanned flight of 5 days and the potential possibilities this type of aircraft holds. Manufacturing Day is a great opportunity to educate the community on future career paths and, like Platform, also on the new innovative products that they are constructing. The integration of aerospace, engineering, and manufacturing can impact several societal arteries like the military, commercial and private companies. Platform continues to be a leader and innovator in their field and will look forward to gaining some new talent that just may be coming up in the ranks.
